safety of Scaffold

Scaffold

A scaffold is a temporary structure which is made of steel and timber. The inspector, cleaner, and building worker apply the staging to work at a height. According to the type of construction work, the scaffolds used can change.

Fundamental parts of the scaffold

Standards
Shifting the entire weight of the structure to the ground is done by vertical tubes called standards.
Ledgers
Joining standards together by flat tubes occurring called Ledgers.
Transoms
Transoms lean on the ledgers at the right angles. Major transoms are positioned next to the standards; they support the standards in place and support the boards. Intermediate transoms are placed between the main transoms to render additional support for the boards.

 Types of Scaffolding

• Single scaffolding
• Double scaffolding
• Cantilever scaffolding
• Suspended scaffolding
• Scaffolding with a base
• Steel scaffolding

The main advantage of using a scaffold at a height

• Unobstructed and stable access to most parts of the structure via staging.
• Scaffolds provide a stable working platform, resulting in workers keeping their balance during work.
• Assemblage and separation of the scaffolds are simple. Moving the scaffold is easy because of its relatively lightweight.
• Scaffolds last for a long time either made of timber or steel.
• The stable platform of staging provides safe conditions for workers.
• Scaffolds are used to avoid wasting time accessing winding paths.

 Common usage of scaffold

• Cleaning: Scaffolds are used to clean windows and other parts of high construction (by workers).
• Construction: Scaffolds provide a stable platform for workers at height (for instance, skyscrapers, and high-rise buildings.) but also are used in construction closer to the ground.
• Industry inspection: Inspection is one of the significant applications of scaffolds. Inspectors check inaccessible parts of the construction via scaffolds for observation of different sections.
• Maintenance: Defects are identified by the inspector. Scaffolds are used to fix the flaws in the inaccessible or high sections.
